Unit Investment Trusts
A Unit Investment Trust is a fixed portfolio of securities sold to investors in trust "units," which represent fractional undivided ownership interests in the portfolio until maturity or redemption. Unit Investment Trusts are "closed-end" funds, i.e. they have a fixed number of units available to investors. With a fixed rate of interest, these securities offer liquidity, although their value will fluctuate. Dividends are distributed monthly, quarterly, and annually.
